It promises to be a special evening in Albany when international superstar Anna Kournikova makes her first appearance at the historic Washington Avenue Armory Tuesday night.

The 27-year-old Kournikova will join her St. Louis Aces as they battle the NY Buzz in World Team Tennis action.

“WTT is awesome,” said Anna, who is playing her sixth season in Team Tennis. “It's a perfect environment for the fans to see singles, doubles, and women's, mixed, everything. I mean, it couldn't be better. I wouldn't miss it for the world.”

Kournikova has long been one on the most recognizable athletes ever. The Russian has graced the cover of countless magazines and she’s appeared in numerous TV spots and movies in addition to her tennis celebrity.

During her playing days Anna won 16 career doubles including the 1999 and 2002 Australian Open and was ranked No. 1 in doubles. Anna also was a singles semifinalist at Wimbledon in 1997, and she boasts career wins over tennis legends Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis and Monica Seles which still remain fresh in her mind.

“For me, those wins are the most memorable and the most important,” said Kournikova, who reached No. 8 in the World. “That's how I view my career, you know. I've achieved a lot of things that I never thought, like you would never even imagine a little girl from God knows where could achieve.”

Kounikova has now successfully shifted gears from her playing days to off court interests.

“I personally have been fulfilled in terms of with my work with Boys and Girls Club,” said Kournikova. “That's my career now, kind of working with the children and really bringing awareness with that and dedicating my time to children and giving back to communities and helping with charities and stuff. Of course, occasionally here and there I do some modeling stuff and everything to still make a living. But in general what I'm really fulfilled with and my passion is working with children and charities. That's what brings me satisfaction and enjoyment.”
