Venus Falls Back To Earth As Buzz Win

Viktoriya Kutuzova starred for the Buzz with two winsJuly 19 -- Five-time Slam champion Venus Williams had her Scenectady debut spoiled Wednesdaynight by the NY Buzz who defeated her Philadelphia Freedoms 22-17. In front of a sold-out 2,5000 fans at CDPHP Tennis Complex, Venus played in the first three matches, winning the opener in mixed doubles. But the Buzz were not awed by the World No. 1 and tennis great as Viktoriya Kutuzova and Julie Ditty teamed to beat Venus and former doubles No. 1 Lisa Raymond in women's doubles. The 17-year-old Kutuzova then beat Venus in the showcase match of the evening 5-2 in women's singles play. The Buzz men closed it out from there as Lipsky beat Freedom Jaymon Crabb, then Lipsky teamed with KC Corkery to clinch the match in overtime. The Buzz registered their third win of the season and now host on Friday night the Houston Wranglers, who are led by current WTA Top 20 Anna-Lena Groenefeld and former Wimbledon quarterfinalist and U.S. Davis Cupper Jan-Michael Gambill.
