The NY Buzz were stung by a resilient NY Sportimes squad 21-20 in the season opener Monday night at MVP Stadium. The Buzz were in control for much of the high quality contest, racing out to a 5-2 lead after Justin Bower and Don Johnson bested Patrick McEnroe and Ellis Ferreira in men's doubles. But McEnroe, fighting jet lag following his arrival earlier in the day from London, held tough and defeated Bower in the men's singles match. The Sportimes continued their momentum taking the women's doubles with big-serving Bea Bielik leading the charge to level the contest 12-12. Rookie Shenay Perry showed her skills defeating Bielik in the singles to push the Buzz ahead 17-15 heading into the final showdown. But in the mixed doubles finale, it was the Sportimes who snatched victory. Down 4-0 in the deciding tiebreak, the Sportimes won six straight points before clinching the tiebreak 7-5 and securing the road win.
